It’s been a few months since the release of our free-to-play text games bundle, but we wouldn’t waste time doing nothing! Actually, there are lots of news.
Now we are studying a new game engine Godot and plan to use it for our future games, and one of them is going to be released really soon. Down below I’ll try to tell about everything in detail, but briefly.

Hello all!
Today we’ve released small update for the game. It contains some fixes, as well as new small branch of plot. You can meet again with the girl you saw at the beginning of the game at some circumstances. Please be aware, that this branch contain erotic content, so you won’t be able to reach it if you decided to turn it off at the beginning of the game.
And yes, small fix for our players, who refused to play the game because of the adult content, in this update you finally can turn it on. At the beginning of the game, just after the skills selection screen, the game will ask you, do you want to see erotic content or not. Using this feature will completely turn off the scenes with erotic content for this playthrough.
In order to find this small piece of content, you need to choose your starting skills wisely, because only certain combination of skills can fully unlock this branch 🙂
If you encounter any problems/errors when starting the game after update, you’ll need to delete your previous save files, because, unfortunately, saves from the version 1.85 are not compatible with 1.87. You can find your save files in the following folder on Windows:
C:\Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/The_Barbarian_and_the_Subterranean_Caves/BarbarianCaves.app/Contents/Resources/appdata/saves/barbarian_caves
or in some similar folder on other OSes.
Please be aware, that the Android version of the game is in the malfunctioning state right now. I’m trying to do my best to fix it, but, please, play updated game on Steam, not on Google Play, for now 🙂

The games “Mansion” and “Another Mars” were added to Non-Linear Text Quests
Hello all!
We’ve added the game “Mansion” to our bundle Non-Linear Text Quests (Russian and Spanish languages are supported at this moment).
This game is hardcore quest with lots of difficult puzzles. Help Ivan to find his younger brother, who disappeared in a strange abandoned mansion.
Game controls resembles classic point and click quests: you select the action verb and click on the object. You can also perform actions with the help of inventory items.
Also we’ve added brand new game “Another Mars” by Peter Kosyh. It is parser text adventure, where you assume the role of the “Mars One” mission astronaut (the game is in Russian at this moment).
These games are located in the Community games catalogue of Non-Linear Text Quests. To launch these games, please follow the steps below:
- Select desired launcher UI language in the correct catalogue (Community games)
- From the list on the left, select the game you want to play
- On the game page, click “Download”. The game download process will be started, please wait.
- Click “Start” to launch the game

Non-Linear Text Quests — itch.io release
Hello all!
We’ve spent a lot of time preparing a free bundle of interactive text adventures Non-Linear Text Quests. It includes text games of different genres on INSTEAD engine created by us and also by the other authors from the community of interactive literature fans.
If you are interested, you can learn more about this bundle here.
The major goal right now is to release this bundle on multiple platforms so that more people would learn about this, according to our view, interesting and original genre. Our following work will depend on how well this undertaking will be accepted by the community. The available platforms are: Steam, Windows Store, Gamejolt, itch.io, Android (together with INSTEAD-NG application).

We are pleased to let you know that the page for our new game bundle “Non-Linear Text Quests” (which will be available this summer) has appeared on Steam. It’s a bundle of text games from different authors which will be absolutely free.
About the creation of The Adventurous Four
Do you know, that the game The Adventurous Four is notable by the fact that, unlike our other games, it was almost completely written by our translator and graphical designer Sergey?
Olya and I were at that time busy with the publication of Return of Red Riding Hood Enhanced Edition, and Sergey had some free time. I asked him to write a short article about the creation of this game, which you can read below.
Help us to decide, which graphical style is better
Hello all!
We are experimenting with the graphical style and created this girl using the new technology. In our previous games, we used program called MakeHuman to create characters, but this model is created by hand in Blender without using additional helper programs. Please compare the models and give us an advice, which style we should use in the future. Comments and criticism are welcomed 🙂
